Favorite Anime Openings

February 7, 2008 at 10:10 am (anime, cheese, faces which amuse me, Gundam, strange)

This kind of post isn’t the substantial type I had in mind when I resolved to blog more this year but I promise there will be something of note to read within the next couple of days. That being said, here are a few of my favorite anime openings. Don’t worry about my sanity; I’m already embarrassed enough to feel like a fifteen year old for posting this.

I should mention just because I few of these are favorites doesn’t mean I’ve watched the entire series. I’m thinking of Yamato and Mazinger Z when I say this seeing as how I’ve only seen a few of episodes of each.

Turn A Gundam:

Out of all the Gundam openings this is the only one that passes muster. It also might have something to do with this being my favorite Gundam to date since it’s sort of steam-punkish, has a slow moving plot, great character development, and manages to explain away the multiple Gundam universes/time-lines.

Space Battleship Yamato:

Why would I choose this as a favorite? I’m sure it has nothing to do with the manliness of Isao Sasaki…

Enough of that.

Eureka Seven:

This anime ranks up there with EVA and Full Metal Alchemist, although the ending isn’t a mind blitz like the former nor as sloppy as the latter.

Mazinger Z:

I like this opening for the nostalgia it exerts upon me although I never saw it as a kid. I guess it’s just the horrible animation quality as well as the cheesy music.

Ergo Proxy:

Paranoia Agent:

The last two openings aren’t entirely chosen for how great the music is but for how they encapsulate the anime they’re introducing. Both of them are great by the way.

And finally will end off with the calliphonic laughter of Guu:

So what are your favorite openings?

Everything you need to know about Gundam

June 29, 2007 at 7:34 pm (anime, comedy, Gundam)

Approaching the end of the Gundam series, having watched about 140 hours thus far, and assuming that Zeta Gundam is most likely the best the series has to offer, I present to you everything you need to know about Gundam.

Oh Canada, Grizzly Gundam stands on guard for thee.

Before I moved on to my “delving” of Gundam Wing, I took a few screen-shots of Gundam G which I found interesting for their sheer cheesiness. These spikes are bad ass.

Yep. That’s a Gundam with a tuque. You can’t see it but it also uses an axe as a weapon. I’m not sure why they didn’t just call it Lumberjack Gundam.

Here’s Grizzly Gundam pilot Andrew Graham facing off against Russia’s Argo Gulskii and his Bolt Gundam.

It’s 1972-1987 all over again!

Other countries didn’t fare as well as Canada did so I’m not complaining. Hurray for multicultural stereotypes!
